SeaPower Partners with HETC for Thermal Barge Mounted Power Plant to Save Lebanese Energy Sector $1 Billion
/SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (PRWEB) May 11, 2017
SeaPower Inc. is a power plant developer located in San Diego with a unique technology allowing for barge mounting of thermal base load power plants, poised to meet the electricity needs of many millions of people in remote locations worldwide who are without any reliable source of power.
Currently experiencing blackouts twice a day, Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water has requested proposals for a short-term HFO barge power plant of 800MW (+/- 10%). SeaPower’s proposal with local partner Hammoud Establishment for Trading & Contracting (HETC) based in Beirut proposes a short-term HFO solution while requests consideration be given to its unique and proprietary thermal barge mounted power facility that would provide a long-term, reliable, less costly means of electricity supply. Substantial savings for fuel costs should be applied for development of solar power as a carbon offset.
“The option to use of micronized coal over proposed 5-year term would save the Government of Lebanon up to $1 billion in costs."
SeaPower offers a truly unique power generation technology utilizing proprietary coal micronization systems, which have been in use in the United States and abroad over the past 35 years. The SeaPower system reduces coal to micron-sized particles so fine that an average particle equals one-fifth (1/5) the diameter of a human hair. This causes the fuel to have combustion characteristics similar to oil and gas; thus, allowing its combustion in exceptionally smaller bottom-mounted boilers, says SeaPower President, Mike Sheahan.
Accelerated construction and commissioning times are a reality with smaller boilers that can be incorporated into modular power stations constructed on barges in quality-controlled shipyards; thus, allowing SeaPower plants to be transported by sea to designated project sites.
If Lebanon’s MoEW accepts SeaPower proposal, the permits for two 440-megawatt plants could be obtained before summer of this year. Construction of two 440-megawatt plants would meet the current needs of Lebanon with future developments planned to include renewable energy. SeaPower and HETC remain committed to full transparency of regulations to deliver the best solution to the Lebanese people.
